Depending
This series explores the combination of color and light to express delicate but profound themes and concepts. It confronts the challenge of expressing philosophical concepts through aesthetic beauty. A light source is typically a catalyst for us to be able to observe objects.
However, in this series, light is part of the subject to be observed, which begins to question the role of each entity’s existence. By turning on the light, artworks appear completely different to our eyes. What is invisible without light becomes visible. Light can change our reality and how we perceive it — it can even change what we feel.
Existence never exists the same in our perception, which is merely an image created by light. Our reality is a projection of our mind.
Sometimes, you need difficult moments and painful experiences to learn. After so many years, you already have a lot of wounds all over your body and heart.
It took such a long time to understand what you really want and realize it is something simple and basic. Covering holes in your heart with a bandage, you keep going forward.
Why does somebody have to be associated with something? Why does a certain gender have a certain role?
Do you think what you see is what is true? What society dictates about women or men is not what they are but how society wants them to be.
You do not see it clearly because you do not see the light inside, but instead focus on where society shines its powerful light.
Everything has multiple dimensions. What you can see is often different from what it actually is. Imposing one’s values on someone else will create more conflicts and issues.
To bring peace in this world, what we need is to develop the capability to accept completely different values and perspectives.
This artwork represents a mutual relationship between a woman and a man. Women can be women because there are men. Men can be men because there are women.
This mutual dependence can flourish when we recognize the importance of each other and respect one
another. We can recognize it only when it is illuminated.
Fighting against COVID-19 thru art.
By putting strike-through lines on top of COVID-19, this artwork delivers a message to stay positive and focus on the positive side of things to get through this difficulty even though the current situation is terrible. The light behind the artwork represents the hope that exists in our mind not outside.
